Sad and touching exhibition. My father, Henry Albert Wheeler, was sent at age 10 by Barnardos in London to Mowbray Park, Picton, NSW where he lived happily for 4 years. Prior to that he had lived in various foster homes in England after his mother, a servant, deserted him at the age of 4 at the Woodstock Workhouse. At 14 he was on his own, working. His first job was working for an abusive farmer 400 km from the Barnardo Home in Picton. He ran away after a few months and was able to find work with a great family in the Nowra area of NSW. Today, at 91, he is still friends with the children of this family. At 62, Barnardos opened the records and he was able to find a half brother in England. Since then he has found and met several other relatives in England, but for most of his life, he believed he had no family except the one he had created himself when he married. Great to see Australia is acknowledging the very difficult time some of the child migrants experienced. Lets hope that we all learn that there is no substitute for love - wherever in the world we may be. I hope the pain of those who suffered eventually ceases and that they enjoy days of love and happiness x

A very moving exhibition. Sadly the exploitation and sexual assaults on young innocent kids was carried out by those so called 'Christian carers' and it is still happening today.
